Singapore Biennale Central Promontory Site 3

My favourite installation art piece of this year’s biennale can be found at the free site of Central Promontory, a make shift temporary structure made up of containers standing behind One Marina Boulevard and admist construction sites, both deterrence but in this land scarce state, essential for the big scale exhibits it houses.

What welcomes you first is a visual feat of hundreds if not thousands of poles sticking into reclaimed land sprouting grass, on top of which slippers belonging to inmates.

My favourite is a sub-structure within the promontory, an all white tunnel leading to a all white haven, evoking feelings of being in a Scandanavian country steep in snow…pure white ethereal wasteland, timeless and hauntingly beautiful. White bean bags scattered in the small room overlooking the pristine landscape. If it is not a tad warm and stuffy, i may never leave.

Floating

Another piece I like is a video installation housed in a container, showing the tipping of a lone boat in the sea symbolises the loneliness of the artist when he was studying in Germany.

The biennale ends 16th November. Rumour has it (facebook) admission ticket to the sites will be halved on the last day.
