flair for baking?
is rather late, the day’s almost done. time seems to stall these days yet when i next look up, hours have passed- sun setting, sky darkens, temperature falls. so what have i done today?
not much.
from a philosophical viewpoint, this must be a waste of life, yet from a zen angle, even nothing is something, accepting my restlessness is embracing the core of nature, isnt it? even considering such questions must be worth something?
well, i baked.
chancing upon a website with super duperly delicious pictures, i swang to the NTUC in Punggol Plaza unkempt and blazed back to bake: biscuits southern style (think popeye southern biscuits) and soft center chewy oatmeal cookies.
Yum.
more than one block of salted butter, too many cups of refined sugar, and mincing all into breadcrumb texture and creaming sugar and butter by hand, i watched in horror as the biscuits failed to rise as promised, and the big oatmeal cookies grew into the next and I ended up with a pan of cookie (rather than cute individual rounds you can hold in your hand) that tastes strangely like red bean paste, the extra sweet burnt type.
if you must ask, and insist on an answer, this is a succinct summary of how the 14th Oct is duly spent. I should refrain perhaps from baking on the 16th, which is his birthday. I would need something that rises sufficiently to stick some candles into…
